Weird noise

On tickover I've noticed a weird resonating noise emanating from the engine bay somewhere. It sounds like a tuning fork & I checked the note with my guitar & it's an 'A' !!! (no jokes about engine tuning etc....okay ). I can hear it in the car & when I open the bonnet I can hear it, but when I lean closer into the engine I can't hear it, so it's a little difficult to pinpoint. Any ideas anyone?

resonator mate... probably worse in the summer/hot weather and whist stuck in traffic on a hot day, mine was exactly the same, either a hole in the resonator or in the associated trunking... HTH

large black plastic box smack in the middle at the front of the engine (to the left of the air filter as you look into the engine bay)

The resonator it's the big black box between the air filter and the throttle plate body. It has the role of producing turbulences in the air flux so enhancing air atomizaton thus increasing torque and power......well at least in theory Cheers

Not the resonator or pipework...I've checked it all & there are no holes. Also noise has now dissappeared, so not going to worry about it unless it happens again.

Ah, seem like you have the SelfFix-module fitted. I think quite a few Scorpios were fitted with one of those

I'm thinking that the previous owner wedged a tuning fork in there somewhere & it came loose giving a harmonic 'A' Or maybe my PCM has developed artificial intelligence
