My wifes estate has developed 2 noises only when turning on a right hand lock. The first is related to the blower, and only occurs when it is blowing at full speed. The second and probably a lot more serious is a grinding noise coming from the front near side (or so she believes). I am going to go out and have a look in a bit, when it cools down a little, and just thought I would see if anybody had a ideas of what to look for before I start.

The grinding noise could be two things. Either your front n/s wheel bearing, or, if it's happening when you are braking, then it's your brake pads that have worn to nothing, and the steel backing plates that were bonded to the pads are now grinding against the disc.
 
If it's brake pads then replace them IMMEDIATELY or the backing plates will damage your discs beyond hope.  
 
You will have to replace both sets of front pads . Never do just one side. If you don't do it, you'll need new discs very soon. It could be that they have already been badly scored, but if it's just started, you will probably be OK.
 
You can check by S L O W L Y driving down the road. If you are getting the noise all the time, then it's probably the bearing. if it's just when you brake, then it's probably the pads.
 
Don't know about your blower, what sort of noise  is it making.

Thanks for the reply, the noise from the blower is a high pitch whine, and the grinding noise is whilst driving. However both noise only occur when turning right.

If it was me, I'd jack up the nearside front amd see what's happening when you spin the front wheel. Should give you some idea.
 
Obviously use an axle stand if you are planning on working on it, for safety reasons.
 
Your fan might just need a spray of WD40 to quieten it. This hot weather lets dust get into small moving parts very easily.

Ok I decided to take the wifes car out today to listen to the noises myself. I think the blower noise could be due to the motor as it whines wether the ac is on or off and wether it is hot or cold air, but only on full power.
 
The other noise does appear to be coming from the passenger side, but is not really a grinding noise, more of a loud moaning/howling noise. The volume does seem to be dependant on speed, the quicker you are moving the louder it becomes, and it is very loud.  
 
I jacked the car up and have checked all around the wheel, I cannot find anything obvious. There does not appear to be any play in the wheel and it does spin quite freely.
 
The thing I did notice when I drove the car is that the noise does not occur straight away, you have to be driving around for a little while before it starts, also you do have to be pretty much at full lock.

Possibly the disc has warped & the pads are touching?
Or pads may need a bit of copper grease as they could be sticking?
Or maybe calliper seized?
Or P/S pump has had it?

Still sounds like the wheel bearing to me. Often as they get hotter, the noise will get worse.
An indication that the wheel bearing is failing is that you will hear a humming noise that increases with the speed of the car and will progressively get louder as the car speed increases. If a front wheel bearing has failed, you will be able to tell which bearing has failed by listening to how loud the bearing noise is as you turn the car from right to left. If you turn the car to the right and the noise gets louder, the left front wheel bearing is bad. The opposite is also true, if you turn the car to the left and the noise is more pronounced, the right front wheel bearing is bad.

 Yes,  I'd   plump   for the front  bearings  too,   they're  not as  troublesome   as the  rears   but   they do  conk  out   sometimes.
 
     I know it's  a  real  pain  but it might be worth  jacking  it up,  this time  remove  the  brake  pads, stick the wheel back on ,  this will give  you    a   better  indication  of  the  freeness,   tightness  or dryness  of the bearings.

Thanks for the replies, all assistance is greatfully received. I have had the brakes off and did think the caliper looked a bit corroded and might stick so have replaced it with one I had kicking around. This made no difference though, so I am going to plump for the wheel bearing next. I have had a look at it and I don't have a socket large enough to fit the nut, anybody know what size it is, as I will need to buy one for it?
 
Also is there a guide on the main site for replacing the front wheel bearings as I can only find one for the rear.

I have that on my estate, but I believe its to do with the power steering  when in full right hand lock, but best to get it checked, my noise did not heed a recent M.O.T. so I think it must be the power steering

Hi I am still having the same problem, have so far fitted new brake discs, replaced the brake caliper and unable to do the wheel bearing I decided to swap the whole wheel hub and spindle carrier from another car. None of which has had any effect on the noise. Only happens when turning right and only after driving for about 10 minutes. Testing it tonight though I did notice the noise does seem to come and go a bit.  
 
Anybody have any ideas because I am lost on this one.
