ABS Front wheel sensor has gone open circuit

As above, front wheel abs sensor has gone open circuit, is it worth giving it a clean? or is it a definite replacement? I had the codes read and thats where the problem was found.

hi-if youve checked wiring and connectors,and still came up with sensor open circuit.might be worth a shot of cleaning sensor but think you really no the out come. http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/abssystem.htm scroll down to sensors. And both sensors on the front are the same finis no.hth

If the sensor is open circuit when measured at it's multiplug on the wing then it'll need replacing.

The ABS light has gone out now so I assume that the sensor may have trapped some itron filings or something. I'll get it cleaned out though.

Thats what I thought. But the bloke that did the diagnosis said it was the front drivers side wheel sensor had gone open circuit? I saw it on his device.
Is open circuit the same thing as a short circuit? If so then I guess if metal filings had got in there then it could short circuit it. I don't know I'm just guessing now!
