Radio not functioning...

Got into the car yesterday to find that none of the buttons on the RDS7000 worked, apart from the on/off/volume knob which functions correctly. Tried the stick on the steering column and nothing works on it, even the volume. So far, all I have done is check the radio, audio systems and electrical systems fuses. Anyone got any ideas? Stu

Has the detachable security plate come loose? It covers the Number buttons 2 thru 5.

Well, it did work... However, it continually reverts back to the state of not working. I have removed the security plate and re-seated it, and that worked fine. However, now it is back to not working again. I have re-seated the plate again but that has also not worked. Any thoughts?

Hi, Yeah..... and this is fiddly.... get a decent sharp pick and VERY CAREFULLY bend the little copper connector strips on the unit as if to tighten the connections, i.e. outwards. This does require a suitable tool, and is fiddly but has worked for me on these units loads of times. Regards Dave

Did the contact bending, but still no joy. Also used a contact cleaner on the radio and the security plate contacts - still nothing. As a thought, I disconnected and reconnected the battery. The radio now asks for the code, but (of course) I cannot enter anything in. I guess that it shows that the radio does recognise that the plate is there. Also, before I disconnected the battery, the red LED in the radio was flashing regularly about once/second. After reconnecting the battery the LED now flashes ONLY when the radio is switched on or off. I do not know if this is typical, but I just though that I'd mention it. Any idea where to go from here?

Mmmmmmmm. Shame it hasn't stayed on. Mine did this many times but I kept whacking the plate back on and eventually it realised who was Boss!! Sounds like the front plate is broken. Methinks Ebay!! Plenty of them around, I'd cut my losses and grab another one. Maybe someone on here has one for sale?

AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!! SIGH Went out the car at lunchtime and, sure enough, the thing is not working again. Am I looking at a take-apart-and-check-the-insides job, or should I just try for a replacement? Stu
