Alarm + keyfob + cruise + horn(s)

Hi all,

I'm new to the group and to Scorpio's - but I've had a Granada's for many years...

It is a just bought 1995 2.9 12v in need of some TLC.

1. I can't seem to get any responce from the alarm at all. I've tried turning the key back briefly, then forward to lock it - No bleep, the red LED in the middle of the dash just below the windscreen doesn't flash, nor does it flash when I turn the ignition on.

2. A keyfob was not supplied. I have managed to get the car to beep, by turning the key to I several as described somewhere, so I guess this means it originally had a remote keyfob. Ford want £106 for a fob, are there any more reasonable (cheaper) sources?

3. I cannot turn on the cruise. No cruise light illuminates in the few seconds after turning on the ignition. I press the on button, no cruise enabled light comes on, no relay clicks and it doesn't work. The handbook suggests there should be a green cruise relay in glove box, but it is missing. the location where it should be seems to be marked for a blue one. I have tried a dark green one from my older Granada.

4. I found and replaced a blown fuse for the horns and it now works, but it sounds like a fiesta. I guess only one is working, the high tone. Where is the low tone horn located?

HI-1-get some one to hold down bonnet switch, lock the car wait for the alarm to arm and let up the switch,if it works would say led  is defuncted.if the car runs without led light would point to faulty led light.
2-look on ebay, highlander was trying to fix up fobs from old ones, don't think he has much success yet,but pm him.
3-cruise will not work till the car is going at least 25mph.most scorpios dont have the green relay it's a ford thing Roll Eyes
4-horns are at front drivers side under bumper

I know about it not actually being able to be used until a certain speed (30 in my Granada), but you could turn the system on (dash light comes on) even at a stand still. I'm getting zilch responce from it.

1 may be the pats module or the led.
2 Try ebay or Ford parts uk
3 Only the cosworth has the green relay fitted your cruise control actuator may be u/s or buttons on the wheel. As Stan said only engages above 25mph tap top left button at that speed cruise control light should come on, press middle button right of steering wheel cruise should engage.
4 The horns are fitted at the bottom right side of the engine bay.

The green CC  Dash light only comes on  when  travelling at over 30mph and  when  the   white dot switch on the left of the steering wheel  followed by   the  + switch on the right of the steering wheel has been  activated.

At least it does on mine  Huh

Also check that the CC cable is connected to the throttle linkage. It has a plastic connector which can wear and become dislodged. The details of operation are HERE

I've just got the LED to work. I lifted the push in cover and just pressed down on the end of the LED. It lights up briefly if the ignition is turned on and flashes quickly if I cover the ignition key with tin foil.

Cruise control problem resolved---

This evening I decided to go through the fuse boxes checking the rating plus continuity of every fuse and check that all the relays were in place.

All the fuses tested good all relays were correct, the only thing I found which didn't agree with the user manual was a missing copper link across one of the unused relay sockets. So I added one.

Now whether this was the problem, or perhaps a poor connection to a fuse I disturbed, I don't know - but the cruise does now work perfectly.

I'm still on my first tank of fuel in this car and the computer indicated I was doing around 20mpg trickling along on back country roads - which seemed rather a excessive. I also thought the tickover seemed a little fast at just over an indicated 1,000 RPM.

Rather oddly, since testing it after the CC started working, the tickover has dropped down to an indicated 850RPM and the MPG has shot up to a respectable 30mpg at steady GPS confirmed 70MPH.

Both horns now work, the low tone one had packed in and I managed to find a replacement at a local scrappy.
