auto gear change indicator

hi there, can anybody tell me how to change/ replace the automatic gear change indicator? the thing that goes P/1/2/N/R/ etc etc.. (i know its not in that order) but hope you know what i mean.. its a R reg 2.3L ultima estate
mine is cracked and i have a replacement at hand but cant figure out how to take it off the old and put it on the new..
do any of you know any links or can tell me how to do it?

is it possible to replace just the "shuttering" with P.R.D.1.2 etc on  or isnt it worth it?? easier to change the whole lot ?? can anyone tell me that
