Mirror Mirror on the floor

My rearview mirror sprang a leak today.

In an amazing stroke of luck I caught it before the stuff melted my centre console (I nipped out to get an air filter in my break)

Anyway, after dismantling it at my desk at work (my boss is away  Grin ) I removed the outer glass and mopped up the ooze.

Unfortunately the casing got chewed up and I have had to sand and paint with satin black paint.  It will do until I can get a new mirror.

Does anyone know if slide on mirrors from other Fords will fit.  Ford want £170 for a new one.

Don't think so, as I searched my local breakers for another Ford mirror without success, and it's quite a big breakers.

I just got a stick on one from another car, (£3.00), wire-wheeled off the old pad, got a new pad from my accessory shop, and stuck it on. No more bother.

I wouldn't try to get the original bracket off, as the risk of cracking the screen (especially now it's getting colder) aint worth it IMHO. Mine just sits underneath it.  Wink

These alien blood mirrors are a load of b*l*o*ks!!

yes, the idea of having a thing fitted to the car that can randomly drip interior wrecking evil all over the place does seem like the worst idea ever.

I wonder if Lexus and BMW auto dimmer mirrors have the same problem.

My Brother in law has a top of range Lexus. £50,000 +

I can be absolutely SURE (cos he's a lawyer), that if HE had a problem with these mirrors dripping their vile rat semen over his posh car interior, Lexus would be in Court !!  Shocked

I think the Ford ones must have been  a sort of new prototype lot which (it's a shame really), are just not fit for the job. Put them in hot sunlight, and they break!

Hmmm

I may look into getting a Lexus one.  Should be possible to wire it up no probs, and if I have to stick a new mirror on , I may aswell go totally non standard.

Yes.  The self-dipping idea is brilliant.  Smiley

Shame it's the only bad point of the car really.  Sad

Only bad part of the car Huh

Apart of course from self destructing engine wiring looms, myriads of different electrical gremlins, vehicle speed sensors that randomly give up the ghost (including new ones from FMD), fuse boxes that fill with water (even with the cover on and drains clear), timing chain and tensioner issues, cd changers that jump until you fit modified brackets, power steering vibrations until you fit modified pipes, glovebox lights that stay on and flatten batterys, rattly rollbar linkrods, leaky water pumps, stupidly designed by pass hoses that run between N/S head and block face, heater rads that block even with Antifreeze.............................................

Yup I've been busy since January when I bought my one owner genuine 80k mileage with history Cossie Estate.  Thank god I didnt buy one from the auctions !!!

Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

And just when I was starting to enjoy it, having been trouble free over the past couple of months, the stereo / and / or / amplifier has died !!

But I love it to bits, just glad its not the only car I've got so thankfully I dont have to rely on it!!

I got my estate from the auctions and most of my problems have been DIY fixable, or not the cars fault.

Also the MPG has gone from 17.6 to 18.9 in a day of fitting the new air filter!  Oh happy joy!  I might get it ti do 20mpg.

I do a lot of short trips and I fear the thermostat is stuck open.

I must get to know some mechanics.  Where do such people hang out?   Undecided

Depends on what area you live in. Somebody may be able to advise you of a good one.

If you CAN do a lot of the jobs yourself, then do.

Sadly there are a lot of mechanical spiders out there ready to take your money into their webs, without solving your problems....Beware!!  A lot of so called 'Mechanics' are absolute cowboys!  WEE HA!

Like Don't EVER go to a Mr Clutch Outlet!!! (I'm sure somebody will wise you up)!

If you think House of Horrors is bad, then if they ever did one on Garages, then it would pale into insignificance.  Believe it!!  Shocked

PMSL too Grin Grin

But the real fun of owning a big old "bimble" estate car with all the toys,(powered by Cosworth), was Friday night on a trip down to our coastal retreat.....

A Jag S Type tries from behind to out accelerate me down the slip road onto a Kent motorway.  I hit the Sport button simultaneously floor the throttle and Jag man looks like he's going backwards.  Big grin appears as I watch him disappearing in my rear view mirror.  Finally at about 120 mph it changes out of third and into fourth and is still pulling strong.  No sign of Jag Man !!!!    Grin Grin Grin Grin  Long Live the 24V !!!!

The only thing that puts more of a smile on my face is the ZX12R   Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Slap!!   Ouch!!  Oh and of course the pleasure of the company of my nearest & dearest of course  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin
