Hi Pedro, Most likely play in something in driveline. Check rubber joint on back of gearbox, then propshaft UJ's then diff, then driveshaft CV jonts. If in doubt get it up on a 4 Post Ramp with helper inside, handbrake on and engine running. FOOT ON FOOTBRAKE, get them to engage D then R alternately, while you watch and listen for play from underneath. Regards

Mine has done this since I got it, about half a second after you engage reverse there is a slight transmission bump, then half a second later reverse is engaged. I'm happy to ignore it as the autobox is otherwise perfect.

I've got a 2.3 manual 98 model that clunks awfully into 2nd from 1st. Any idea?

merseyscorp, my manual is the opposite, it clunks from 1st to second. It had a new clutch not that long ago and that didn't cure it so i'm thinking its along the lines of the engine mounts. Strangely, it doesn't clunk if i double de-clutch Matt
