Its a long storey, alternator packed up 12 months ago, searched around and got one, after 8 months pulley came loose and belts came off, car overheated and new cylinder head required. All done, had pulley put back on, realy tightened up and lock tight added. Today said pulley came off again shredding belts, any suggestions as i'me about to blow a fuse myself, Mick

Without the nut fitted, can you turn the pulley on the shaft? If you can, then I would suggest (don't know without checking) that there ought to be some sort of key fitted - perhaps a Woodruf key. This is a half-moon shaped bit of metal which fits in an half-moon socket in the shaft, leaving it protruding such that it acts as a key to prevent the pulley turning. The nut then just has to hold the in place rather than handle the rotational torque of the pulley. The pulley bore will have a groove to locate against the key.

Cheers Harry, we did look at this and noticed by the absence of no woodruf key or any guide for it, Mick
