Tailgate Catch

Hi, I am still on about the tailgate lock/switch. I have purchased a catch and switch, the catch is spring loaded where the one on my car is not, so I take it the spring has broken, I have tested the 'new switch' which has three wire on it, I would have expected a common, no and a nc, but I can only get a reading when the switch is UNMADE, I clipped the switch into the catch, when I 'lock' the catch it does not change the switch, should there be something between the catch arm and the switch, it seems the pall on the switch is not long enough to reach the pall on the catch, both these parts are off the same tailgate. Anyone throw any light on this please, I do not want to pull it all apart for nothing, any help would be appreciated. Thanks ColinE
