Main wiring loom

My local Ford dealer has just informed me that the main engine loom on my cossie needs replacing!!!! Apparently where the loom passes between the cylinders it gets hot (no surprise there) and the insulation falls off. The really bad news is that Ford no longer stock/make them. Anybody know where they do a reconditioned loom?

Dont think anyone does, I think the normal course is to build your own or fit a second hand one

If you embark on the DIY job it is important to understand that the 'connectors' are FORD only and they are NOT separately available and although there are 'aftermarket' ones which look similar they ARE NOT the same. The solution is to 'make a joint' to the old wire as close to the fitting as possible....assuming that is practical. Each unit needs to be assessed individually.

Technically you don't have to use Ford connectors if you're making up your own loom - of course you'll need to if you want to just be able to plug it straight in, but on bits that don't have an integrated Ford wiring socket I'd just cut both ends off and use crimp connectors (or better still, solder). Of course, things like the temperature sensors you can't do this on because they don't have a short flylead with a connector on the end, but in these cases the sensors are so universal among cars that many makes use the same plugs (I know several of the Rover sensors have the same plugs as Ford)...

you will get one from fordpartsuk for about £260 this site has a link but dont forget all the gaskets and orings for the inlet manarfold and trust me its a nice job for a DIY

Hi Cossielover. Just had a NEW loom fitted to my engine. Loom cost £97.15 + VAT and took 1.5 hours to fit. Total cost £201. Well impressed!!
Garage that did the work was Country Cars ltd at Dead Mans Cross nr Shefford Beds. Hope this helps.
