PATS lamp constantly illuminated

Hi all, Well I picked up my first Scorpio (N reg, 2.0 16v Ultima) on the weekend and already have my first electrical fault. The problem is that the PATS/Alarm lamp is constantly illuminated, although the vehicle starts and runs fine. I've tried disconnecting the vehicles central control module, which has no effect, and have also disconnected the battery numerous time, but when I reconnect the battrey the lamp comes back on. The only exception to this fault is that when I stop the engine, after 3 seconds the LED goes out for approx 10 seconds, but then it just comes back on and stays on. There are no flash codes shown, and the alarm system won't enter self test (I've hit the bonnet closure switch 6 times in less than 8 seconds to try this). Can anyone shed some light here? Thanks

Thanks for the link but unfortunatly the LED's characteristics fall outside of the normal fault operation. The only time the LED goes out is around 3 seconds after stopping the engine. It then stays extinguished for around 10 seconds, then turns back on, and stays on. No Flashes, no fault code. Could the PATS modual have failed in a way which still allows normal vehicle operation?

Welcome to the site You haven't got an aftermarket alarm installed on the car have you? I ask because used to, and it did some funny things to the Ford alarm and the PATS LED.

I think its all standard, but I'll have a look to double check. End of the day its running fine so I won't be losing too much sleep if I can't resolve this, it just would be nice to understand whats going on

not sure, might be interesting to see what happens when you use the other keys.... if you can programme them (are they the ones that came with the car originally) it sounds as though the PATS system is functioning, because the light is going off when the car is turned off, but its just not happy with something (eg thinks a door is open) so wont arm the alarm. i guess its happy enough with the key, as its not immobilising you. ive never had a master key, so dont know what effect it has when you use it.
