Front end knock(No More)

It is a lovely day today here in Rochdale so as my wishbone and anti-rollbar bushes arrived from FMD the other day I thought now is the time, this knock has been driving me crazy. So up in the air with the front end and removed the engine tray and just have a look around. There cannot be anything wrong with the anti-rollbar bushes, afterall these have been checked by two different mechanics, which I must add had cost me over £70 in their time hence buying the complete set of bushes for both wishbones and of course I bought a pair of bushes while I was at it for the anti-rollbar.I first started with the anti-rollbar,nearside looks new,so on to the offside Shockedonly half a bloody bush.Off with this and on with the new and wow, after test drive no more knocks steering feels totally different,no need for wishbone bushes so these are for the future maybe. I changed my anti roll bar bushes a few weeks back as I also had a knocking which had been missed by the MOT tester.

He said..."they look fine to me mate".... Undecided

After un-bolting the roll bar ends from the drop links, the reason for the knocking became evident. The bushes were worn & the rollbar was swinging so freely it was actually knocking on the bottom of the engine  Shocked

Seeing as I'd just replaced the steering rack & both wishbones, then it didn't really make alot of difference to the handling....but at least the d**n, infernal knocking while driving on uneven roads is a thing of the past  Wink

What sort of knock was it guys as this might be my prob, checked wishbone bushes and links all seem fine but rollbar could be it sounds like metal hitting something but not a graunch type noise just a tap tap over rough roads

that could very well be the drop links or roll bar bushes.

time for you to get underneath and check for any play in the roll bar  Wink

Chieftain.....the roollbar made quite a heavy knock on un-even roads....best described as something hitting the bottom of the front end, but couldn't be pin-pointed to the left or right  Smiley

Same here,my knock was a very heavy type, metal on metal which I thought was coming from the nearside but once the engine tray was removed I found that it was the offside bush that had gone.If the mechanics that I had used had done what they should have done and got under the car and removed the tray then I would not be stuck with 2 front and 2 rear wishbone bushes.
