Sticking accelerator pedal when running

Hi ... hope you can help. I've suddenly developed a sticking accelerator which makes it a bit difficult when pulling away. When you press the pedal with the engine running it just feels like its stuck. But when the engine is switched off the pedal moves freely with no stcking at all. My car is a '96 2lt 16v Auto. I have cleaned the butterflies and made sure all linkages are free and well oiled. All advice truly welcomed.

I have exactly the same problem, annoying more than serious.

Something to do with  engine vacuum  acting on the  butterfly  and   sticky carbon deposits . Angry

I agree ... pain in the rear end. Someone has told me there is a Air bypass inlet ?? which could be blocked?? Not sure. Does anyone have a link to throttle system including the ISCV.

this is interesting as i've had it a couple of times; put my foot down and the pedal stayed down, had to slide my foot under it and pull it back.......

hi there

when you said you cleaned everything, did you take it apart? this is a good guide to cleaning the throttle.

sticking open or closed? Do you have traction control?
I had a problem with throttle staying closed : when pulling away the gas just didn't respond, it turned out to be traction control had released its slack, I slacked off both the cable adjusters and then readjusted them and it went away.
