hi there

no, the autoboxes are not the same. the newer 'box (2.0, 2.3 & 2.9 24v) is fully electronic and has different number of clutches depending on engine size.

when changing to manual, you need to leave the selector in PARK. also might need to change cog on the VSS depending on engine/gearbox/diff used. that's all i know about the subject.

So you want to put a 2.9 12V auto into a 2.3 1995+ Scorpio YesHuh

You would have to change the bell housing, VSS & torque converter.

Then it would all bolt in & connect up.

But I am pretty sure the car would probably go into limp home mode but not 100% on this.
With a vacuum feed the auto itself should work but I am not sure what the ECU would do as it would think there is no auto box as its the wrong one. Maybe just loads of fault codes.

You wouldn't have your S, E & ice modes either.

The 2.9 box is a bit stronger.

For manual yes you have to make the car think it's in P all the time.
May work if the car don't like the old auto as well.

Thanks for your help lads
when changing to manual, you need to leave the selector in PARK. also might need to change cog on the VSS depending on engine/gearbox/diff used. Also depends on tyre sizes.
If selecting park would it not confuse the ECU (speedo reading 50mph 150mph Grin) yet cars not moving Pselected? Huh
