Is there a contact or (not sure what to call it) or other control that detrmines when the boot light is on. On opening the boot I can the light comes on, then when lid is fully open light goes out, so it controlled by cam or such or is it a wiring fault?

My boot light has refused to work for a while too. I did re-join a few broken strands of the wire bundle that goes up the drivers side hinge of the boot lid. This stopped the problem I had with the alarm going off and an unlit reversing light. Since then however, the boot light has remained a dud. I don't think there is a separate fuse for it, or is there ?

might be worth checking the bulb, if your wires were shorting it may have blown
