I have the 1995 V6 12 Valve ultima that had a TSB issued concerning a faulty SATC (Semi Automatic Temp Contol - Unit) and a faulty outside temprature sensor, and have replaced the SATC with a second hand unit from a later model and a new temperature sensor.
One of the problems I had was that I could not get the re-set procedure to work, I could swithc the system off and hold the two knobs down and get the reset procedure to starrt but could not dial in the 50 into the passenger side temp indicator.
The problem I have now is that I can not turn the climate control unit off, all the positions seem to be one out. If I turn the laft hand dial to the left the auto position is active.
I have checked the fitting of the ribbon and tried disconnecting the battery but to no avail.
Could the SATC be faulty and cause this type of problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi J I also had a very similar problem a couple of years ago and I also sourced a used SATC but unfortunately this one was on its way out to, the only thing i can suggest is that if you know some one near with a similar car which has a known working SATC then ask nicely of course if you could try it on yours this way you will either prove a faulty SATC or illiminate that the SATC is the problem I eventually sourced another used one and although not perfect it will do until I can afford a new one.

Probably an issue with the control panel itself rather than the box behind. There's a complete SATC module/panel in a scrapyard near me that should be pretty cheap - see under parts for sale|breaking 2.9 ultima saloon for details.
