today coming home in scorp noticed a very weird noise, so had a listen once got home, prob 1, reving engine up seem ok take foot off a kinda metal rattling noise as revs drop i belive it could be a cat prob? held a hammer against the casing of the cat and i could feel a vibration coming up the handle of it, could any one tell me if im right in thinking cat? prob 2, a rather loud air leak, sound like its coming from under the cosworth cover i remember reading a post somewhere about a t piece under there? both must have happened at the same time

Hi Prob 1. With the engine switched of {ex cold} bang on the cat either use yr hand or a rubber hammer. If the cat has broken up you will here it rattling. May be the bolts/bracket has came loose. Prob 2. Remove engine cover look at vac pipes to see if anything has come adrift or chaffed through, then start the engine, listen for air leaking. Hopefully its an easy fix ghia-x

hi there if the cat has blocked the exhaust, it cvan blow the 2 egr pipes off, hence the noise. not sure where they are on the 24v, but the other end (the transducer) in on the bulkhead, so follow them down from there. hth

got the old man to stick his head under car today and he said it is def the near side cat that is rattling the egr pipes still seem to be connected .. is it wise not to drive car till i can find a cat? it sounded horrid today when had another listen. would it be wise to try and get hold of both cats? or just replace the bad 1?

hi there a scan would show if the other cat was iffy. plus it would show up any fueling issues, etc. re driving it. it should be ok for a short while. if the cat brick breaks up, it cat block the exhaust, which isn't fun (ask tintin about his)! hth

tintin is the cat good once youve had the fight? no ive noticed that the prices are way cheaper than other places did yours take long to come down? dose this mean i need to buy a lambda sensor too? if so which one would fit our scorp ? and are the ones from cats direct ok?

Hi, Didnt fit them myself, but the garage werent smiling when i came back, already agreed fixed price MOT straight after fitting, passed emissions almost perfect. I knew i had one post cat lambda out, and precat was sluggish, so i bought two new ones asked them to fit them precat, and swap the two working older ones post-cat. unfortunately, they wouldnt fit them, only the ones they supplied, so i have a couple of brand new ones cheap if you need

nah, a local garage, the most respected garage in Edinburgh wouldnt touch the job unless bought proper cats, but put me onto this guy. only had to go back once to that one !!! my best experience with a garage so far be aware, many places will only fit parts they supply, so if you are going down the cheap/ second hand route, find a garage first pm sent
