Running Very Hot!

OK, as some may be aware, I had a rad leak recently which was easly repairable as the sides of the rad just needed re-crimping (car is a Cosworth by the way).

The rad shop said that it was down to system over-pressurizing so we changed the thermostat for a brand new OEM Ford part and also a new OEM header tank cap.

First day of running the car temp guage seemed to struggle to get out of the blue,...great I thought  Grin

However, last few days (and just now) sat in moderate traffic and in no time the temp guage rises to the top of the guage, but just shy of the red line.  I could hear the fans come on so I know they work (also seen them both running).

My heater works red hot so I don't think I have an air lock.

Now I'm scratching my head to understand why the car is running so hotHuh!  It always used to be about mid-way on the guage.

In fact today, the needle looked like it was just about to go into the red   Undecided

Any ideas?

hi there

can you check the actual temp in the header tank? how does that compare to the dash diagnostics?

just want to make sure it's not a sensor playing up. Wink

Header tank is boiling.  Yes CAT's are shot,...in fact, exhaust has started blowing badly again somewhere, not exactly sure where yet.

Have arranged to get another complete exhaust system from tintin's donor car compete with CAT's which only have 30k on them Wink

yep, when my car had blocked cats, the temp would rise when sat in traffic. seemed ok when on the road, presumably could breathe better when a bit of pressure was put through it.

ps, my rad also split at the seam at the side not long after..... hence me buying the donor car (but after i had the cats done, darn it). wonder if these are connected somehow.....

pps an "italian" tune-up (on a rolling road, 6000rpm) cleared the blockage short-term (a big lump came out), then the car had its power back, and didnt overheat for a few weeks..... then, back it came, so time for new cats  Angry
