Smiley Thanks for the replies on my question on 'Charging Light and Flat Battery', but a follow on from that topic is, " how many wires should be connected to the Neg terminal on the battery of a 1995 2.5 turbo diesel", and will the car work for several months if one is left off, sorry to be a pain

Two on my diseasel!  Large one for starting and stuff and a smaller one which will cause wierd stuff if left off!

Smiley Thanks Chaps, thats what Iv'e got, funny thing is, now Iv'e charged the battery externally, there doesn't seem to be a problem, 'spose thats the wrong thing to say as I havn't tried to start it this morning

It's entirely possible your new alternator isn't working properley.  Check what voltage you get at battery terminal with headlights on full.
