Alternator !!!!!! (ultima 2.0)

Hi ya folks, Well i've been having probs starting my Scorp, i put it down to a dodgy battery, its 18mths old, took it back to halfords, and they changed it for me, at no extra cost, even though it had gone up to £86.00, but its still reading 12.6 sumtimes a little higher, i've tried all different scenarios, i've taken fuses out, i've tried to eliminate everything, so i've come to the conclusion its my alternator, is there anything i can do before i have to go to a garage and have a new one fitted ? Many thanks in advance Ron

Hi...check it on the dash diagnostic here.... http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/instreset.htm... Or if you have a multimeter, then with the engine ticking over, test the battery terminals. A good reading should be around 14volts, but any lower than 12.5volts probably means the alternator needs replacing
