Faulty ABS and traction control

Just bought a 98 Scorpio 24v and have had a tow bar fitted. Now, the two fault lights come on and stay on after the car has run for a few seconds. Turned engine off and restarted and it now seems OK. Is this sign of an impending problem, or as a result of a battery disconnection and hence shouldn't reoccur?? Thanks

hi there sounds more like the rear sensor wiring has been disturbed when fitting the towbar. check and clean the multiplug for them under the rear seat. then have a look at the rear wheel sensors themselves. hth

Hi, On these, it has ABS & traction control. When the traction control comes on it usually means the rear wheel sensors. Check as above post. On the 24v check the connector on the ABS pump which is located under the radiator expansion tank. Easy job, lift off the tank, open the connector and clean it. Done the job on mine. Cheers

Are you saying the lights did come on but now they are off? or do they come on all the time?

Came on when ignition is turned on. Then went off as they are supposed to. Came back on after a minute or so after moving off. I haven't had a repetition, so looks like it may have been some sort of issue folooiwng battery reconnection / loose connection.

Only happened to me twice - both when pulling away on gravel. Couldn't clear it by turning off and restarting several times as both lights came on as soon as got over 15mph. The way I did clear it (on both occasions) was when I next started up I turned off the TCS went for a drive - no lights. Next time I started, turned TCS back on and drove off - no lights. May not work for you but seems the first and easiest thing to try before messing with connectors, etc.

Thanks for the advice, all seems ok now. I guess as a new owner I just need to get used to the motor and all its idiosyncrasies
