hi everyone, i know this is a scorpio site and not a granada site but i must try something. i have a 2.5tdi granada L reg. it was running fine, never missed a beat until the clutch went. i lifted the car and changed the clutch while doing this for the first time disconnected the battery. now i have finished the clutch the car wont start. it turns over fine just wont fire up. i had the same problem with a granada cosworth many years ago and it was the ford immobiliser, i found on here somewhere how to bypass the immobiliser but for the life of me cant remember now. if anyone can help i would really appreciate it. thanks, andrew

Have another look at the battery leads and make sure you havent missed one. Not sure if the Granada is the same but it happens a LOT with the Scorpios Theres a small lead to the -ve terminal that gets missed or trapped below the battery.

hi again, i have checked all the wires to the battery and they are all connected, i took the sterio's out and looked for the black box but there isnt one.... there also isnt a led by the clocks, there is one in the middle of the dash right next to the screen which comes on when i turn on the ignition for 7 seconds then goes off. i have loosened one of the diesel pipes and there was no pressure, i disconnected the pipe and turned the engine over and not a drop of diesel came out. has anyone any idea's cos im lost now, the car drove to the point where i jacked it up and disconnected the battery and now its reconnected it wont go...........please help............

Is there a fuel cut off button in the boot near the tailgait (RED) if so this may have tripped cutting off the power to the fuel pump. I ar'nt familiar with the deisels but it's worth checking.... Pete

hi pete, i read the handbook and and then checked for a cut off switch but a diesel doesnt have one, i then blead the diesel system (like it said in the hand book) so i know diesel is up there now but it still wont pump through. i have just twigged something even more worrying though, i changed the clutch cos it lost the ability to go forwward or back, when i took the clutch out the plates were bald so i thought it had to be that. i have just been trying to turn it over and realised i had left the handbrake off and it in reverse and the car wasnt moving anywhere ?? i think its about to go to the scrappy as i cant figure it out

Sounds like the fuel pump is'nt working, could be a fuse, a relay, a faulty connection/wiring etc etc, the engine should still start eaven if the clutch isn't working. Is it an automatic or a manual gearbox, can't understand the connection with the gearbox... and why you should have to scrap it, surely it would be worth a replacement

hi pete, the storey goes, i bought the car about 3 weeks ago in wales which is nearly 200 miles each way from me, i went all that way cos i really wanted a granada diesel. it drove home like a dream, the following day i was driving along a road and the clutch started to slip, within 300 yards it was gone and i had to get it towed home, on the way me and the bloke towing me had an accident and broke the bumper, headlight and wing. got it home in the end feeling rather bad. i put the car in the air and took off the gearbox, (it is a manual gearbox) it ended up costing just over £300 for the clutch which i fitted (i have changed lots of clutches) this is why after all the work and money that has gone in i am a little disheartened. to top it off i cant get my head aroud it not starting, it started every time i turned the key until it went in the air and ever since it wont, i dont get it, especially since there is no immobiliser which is what i was certain was the problem. i think im flogging a dead horse here, i have a feeling the bloke who sold it wasnt such an honest welshman that he seemed. thanks for your help though. andrew
