uh oh need to remove a front ABS sensor

Hi all, I finally got the codes read for my abs fault and its a prob on the front offside. We ve had a look at the wiring which seems ok so we ve tracked down a scorpio in the local scrapyard and are going to try to remove the front sensors to put in mine. so 2 quick questions if anyone can help Are the offside and nearside sensors compatible or do I have to make sure that I get an offside one? I know the theory behind removing the sensor (and that its very difficult to remove without destroying ) but does anyone have any hints on how to actually remove it from the hub, I suppose prising it out with a screwdriver is the last resort? Any advice would be appreciated.

Here's a third. Don't waste any of your life trying to remove scrap sensors. Just drill and chisel out the old one and buy a new one. Make sure you don't drill too far and damage the sensor ring. You will probably finish up with lots of chewed up copper wire inside the hub which can generally be removed with a vacuum cleaner nozzle. Generally a messy job but not really difficult. Good luck. I've got the same job to do later this week. John

Unfortunately the car has cost me so much recently that buying a new sensor is the total last resort. Unless you want to buy me one.

Second hand hub inc sensor is the most cost effective, easiest and quickest way to do it

I ve found one scrappy who reckons he can remove the sensor ( impressive if he can!) he said to ring back tomorrow and check he s managed. If not, I ve found a hub and sensor, just got to find someone to do it.

If he gets the sensor off and you buy it make sure it is under guarantee....as his hammer may slip... Pete

| I'll bet he's never tried it on a Scorpio before.. Better just getting the whole hub off him. Scrap yards wont spend the time trying to remove it slowly. I have removed a couple by grinding away the actual hub but then the hub is no use.

yes if he can pull the sensor out straight it may be ok but if he has to turn the black part of the sensor it will most def snap the two small copper wires that are just under it,then its no good.

Solved the ABS problem!!!! without buying anything !!!! Took the wheel off and had another look, removed the grey plastic cover at the centre of the hub and cleaned the sensor point and then noticed the connection on the multi plug wasnt clicking together properly. Trimmed a small amount from the black sleeve which made the connection tighter reconnected and covered with insulation tape to keep it clean and the bloody light went off!! taken months and but its done.
