2.0 16v missing - my miss-take?

Posted a topic before on what seemed to be an erratic miss. Now it's back on the road I'm more inclined to think it's related to throttle opening. Unless you feather the throttle , it snatches on take-up and on gear changes. It also does not pull as strongly as you would expect from a 2.0 and hesitates. It has been scanned(allegedly) and nothing showed up. Is there anything on the fuel side which would give these symptoms and not come up with an error code?

hi there might be a slow switching lambda sensor or the throttle position sensor. you measure both with a meter. lambda set for 1 volt, tps set to 5 volts. hth

Hi folks. Many thanks as usual for your suggestions. However, today I have been on a longer run and I fear I have led you up the garden path. It is after all quite definitely a miss. Tickover is rock steady. On take up and on changing gear it snatches. Accelerating through the gears it intermittently misses under load. Pulls, misses a few beats, pulls, misses again etc. Once it is up to speed, it's fine. Took it up to...ahem..mph and no bother. Should I invest in yet another scan? Any suggestions for a Scorp- wise diagnostician ( is that a real word?) in the Notts area anybody?

Check the wiring to the coil packs VERY carefully along with the HT Leads as they can cause the syptoms as you describe......!

Thanks , Dave. That has reinforced my own feeling about it. It feels for all the world like an HT problem. I have had what I thought was a good look at the leads but will have another go tomorrow. Will report progress. Or, more likely, lack of it! PS. As it doesn't happen on tickover, does that mean it wouldn't necessarily show up on a scan?

Right chaps. Have just had another look. Somebody has obviously had the harness apart and re-covered it. There are 4 plugs going to (presumably) the injectors, 1-3 via a plastic box and no. 4 with its own plug. The insulation is cracked and the wire bare where it goes into no. 4 so it's a safe bet that if I was to strip it all, I'd find other nasties. Looks like I need to invest in a new harness for starters and a coil pack if that doesn't cure it. Next stop, those nice people at Fordpartsuk. Watch this space..
