Grandad. Go to THIS page and look at 'Specifications'. You will see that all other models are listed in the links on the left of the page. When your oil was changed was a genuine or good quality filter used. If they do not have a 'non return valve' this can cause the oil to drain down and thus take longer to reach the vital parts.

Actually just about every filter I know of has a non return valve, it is part of a oil filters construction usally. However some work better than others.

| Well, I would certainly suggest an immediate change if you don't know how long its been in there and what grade/type it is. To be honest, a 1 second rattle in cold weather is something that could quite probably be cured by using a good oil and genuine Ford filter. Have a search around the forums but IIRC I have read good things about Castrol oils. Fully synthetic is recommended for the 24v's, but there are caveats. For example, a fully synthetic oil will clean an engine out. If an engine has had infrequent oil changes and is a bit dirty inside, switching to fully synthetic may make it leak as it dislodges deposits around gaskets. It could even loosen deposits so they shift to oilways and cause blockages My 24v was a case in point so I use a good Castrol oil, but a semi synthetic brew, and change it regularly. Comma oil is also meant to be very good, 5w30 IIRC.
