Help, new boy on the block, how do I get the board index page to start a new thread? I have problem with alternators had three new ones & 2 repaired in ten years have had the 2.5 TDi Ultima any ideas? cheers crocket (new member)

the early oil burners were fitted with a 75amp alternator which couldnt take the strain, ford later fitted either a 120 or 125amp one, it might be that the ones you've had replaced were the earlier version.....

I believe the early alternator was also used on some Transit vans. You cannot fit one from a petrol engine because the vacuum pump (for the brake servo) is driven from the back of the alternator. Later diesels had an alternator with a front mounted vacuum pump which looks similar to the one fitted to the Rover L-series diesel engine. Darren
