2.5 vm diesel water leak

Hi, got a problem. my radiator was punctured and lost all its water quite rapidly. I changed the rad, but I can now see a constant dribble of water from between the two cylinder heads on the fueling side of the engine(nearest the bulkhead). The water never had time to emulisfy the oil, hence no white emulsion. I've not done a compression test yet. (Will do at weekend) With a constant dribble, should I expect a cracked head or a damaged gasket? What else could cause a water leak in that area? (Its not the header tank, I've checked it) Anyone had a similar experience? Any ballpark figures for repairs ? Thanks in advance .Simon.

There is a coolant collector rail bolted across the top of the heads, but this is on the manifold side of the heads... Darren

1995 td estate. 200k Hi mate, no idea whether it overheated or not as my brothers mate had borrowed ther car ! Rarely get the whole truth from him !. As the hole in the rad was quite big, can assume it probably did overheat. So, should I expect a big bill ? Is it a garage job or at home ?

its a home job m8 easy job not hard one way to test the heads to see if they are cracked without paying to have them pressure tested is to change the gaskets and put the cooling side back together and fill it with water and watch for leaks when you take off you heads rember to look and see how many notches the gaskets have ie none one or two will be on the gasket you will need to get a gasket with the same number of notches to put back on and m8 when you take the heads of you will find you have 4 gaskets i replaced my 4 with a whole metal gasket for a jeep cherokee and your inlet manifold and exhuast manifold gaskets are all single replace that with a whole metal inlet and exhaust gasket from vauhall for a fontera 2.5 tds you will need new head bolts and get a litre of sae90 oil coat the head bolts with this when you put the bolts back i will give you a pm on how to do the job
