2.5 diesel vm gasket thickness.

Hi, I've taken my cylinder heads off and now need to put a new gasket on. The old gaskets were one notch in thickness. I'm replacing them with a one piece job, but I'm a bit confused with the thickness of the gasket. Vauxhall (the nearest VM source) say gaskets will take a time to arrive, so it's an ebay job. On ebay 1.62 mm is said to be 2 notch, yet rover say 1.62mm is one notch ! Both the same engine, which is correct ! How thick is one notch ? As for my water leak problem, there is nothing wrong with the original gasket, nothing blown. I now think the head bolts were not tight enough as they were very easy to remove, very little torque required. Should have thought of tightening the head bolts first !

Hi Si-H, I can't answer your question about the difference in notches but hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along soon I had a similar water leak from the water jacket which was visibly leaking down the left hand side of the engine. I stuck a bottle of K Seal in it and it's been fine ever since! Cheers Jim

advise getting heads pressure tested & then re faced if ok, use thicker gasket, engineers who do the p/test & r/face should be able to provide the gasket.
