I want to buy a photoelectric tricle charger to keep the battery charged using the rear cigaret lighter, will that work, the front one's broke. I can't be bothered to fix it I don't smoke.

Check that the lighter is live all the time like the front one,if it is you've cracked it !

I read an article once that reckoned while the solar panel did actually charge the battery it would take years for it actually to fully charge a flat battery.
Any specs on the one you are going to get?

It would take years to charge a flat battery. They only keep up with items that might drain a fully charged battery, eg the clock  over a long period of standing 5-6 weeks as mine is.
