Hi all,

Recently bought scorpio,so am quite new to this.and joined forum maybe 2 weeks or so ago.

I have a problem with my heater. car is 1998  2.3l ultima model.

I have little air flow from heater.Control knob has no effect on volume of airflow.
Aircondition comes on but is not at full pelt. when air con turned off,the flow is the same.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for welcome to site. Smiley

Have you tried the procedure shown in Highlanders first reply re testing the HBC?. That does not require a meter.

hi there

are the fans running? is there a difference in heat between drivers side and passenger side (lo on pass side, hi on drivers side)?

if you disconnect the ribon cable from the rear of the face panel, this will bring the fans on is high speed mode.

does this work?

Glad to hear you're sorted Mick. Can you just indicate if you followed the link which Scorpio Man put up or did you find an easier/different way. Be usefull to know as the problem of 'non working' fans keeps cropping up. Did it just require WD40 or similar once you'd got access?. If so could access  for lubrication be obtained without wholesale cutting of the unit?.  Wink

to all, link i followed was fanrepair.htm .every step was detailed and photo s meant easier to follow than i had imagined.
when i got motor out i noticed slight rust around main shafts of motor.everything else was in good nick, sprayed wd40 on it,dried  it off and tested off battery with 2 wires (followed wiring diagram on hbc test, dont know if it mattered but wasnt taking any chance.) theres only 2 wires on motor  black/red  went to neg battery side and on it went full pelt.
at that stage i breathed a sigh of relief Wink  hoovered out lightly any grime that was inside before replacing as reverse jus as link states.

with regarding access to unit,i think you've jus made a good point there, looking at the last photo of the motorand the the 1st photo,i think maybe two cuts in casing either side of the hbc would maybe do,
could even adapt the hoover with a small tube to hoover out any dirt.
You got me think now Roll Eyes
thnx mick.

Thank you Mick. You've obviously got my drift. I wonder if a hole drilled in the casing at the correct location, and subsequently plugged with, say, a grommet, might be all that is needed to get the spray to the right spot.  Wink
