heated windscreen

hiya lads. my front windowscreen heater isnt working.switch seems to be working(orange light on).but no screen heat.is there any thing i can check,fuses or such.tested it for the first time yesterday when screen was froze over and no joy. any advice would be brill atb

yep. there is some drain on the battery if the engine isnt running.i think there is also a timer on the switch that knocks off after 4 mins.at least there was on my granada scorpio.i hope its just a relay away or something like that.

The drain on the battery could be the heated washer jets that work in conjunction with the screen. Is there any whitish discoloration along the top edge of the screen ? If so this is a sign of the laminate starting to break up, therefore possibly breaking the very fine wire element that's embedded in the laminate.

looks like r18 relay on diagram.i didnt know that there are two banks of elements.probably too mch drain on batt or if 1 packs up the other will work

r18 it is and the relay is black - it's the same as the ignition lock one, and there are 2 fuses numbers 38 & 41 also in the auxilliary fuse box, they should both be 30A

Another simple check - make sure its plugged in ! My heated screen only worked on the drivers side, something i lived with until whilst running a power feed in for the sub, i noticed a disconnected lucar connector at the base of the screen - plugged it in - hey presto ! a living heated screen
