1997 Scorpio 2.3 Ultima problem reared his head this morning. Engine started perfectly from cold, driven for a short distance and parked up. Came to restart it, engine turned over put failed to start. Tried it again same result. Left it for five mins, started up and ran perfectly. Switched it off, engine restarted then died. Tried it again, engine started and revved, but with foot on throttle engine died. Started engine again, ran perfectly. Weather was extememely wet, gave it a run over about ten miles with out problem. Got it home tried it again, started then died. At the same time the front windows were opened a crack and failed to close on the buttons. Eventually they closed up. I had a look at the fuse box, all dry and hunky dorey, no blown fuses. Gave them a blast with some air just to make sure, but all ok. Any ideas please ? whether connected or not (unlikely I would have thought). As I write this engine not starting, windows not operating.

Is it manual or auto? Sunroof working? So it wont start when warm you reckon? The battery side fusebox can fill with water and you cant see it without separating the bottom plastic cover and looking in The windows not working suggest electrics however it may not be related. Fuel pressure regulator Check fuses F31, F34, F37, F42 OBD check for faulty CKP sensor and/or CMP sensor fuel pump relay

Is it manual or auto? - Auto Sunroof working? - yes So it wont start when warm you reckon? - won’t start at all now, battery gone flat overnight The battery side fusebox can fill with water and you cant see it without separating the bottom plastic cover and looking in - checked it, all clean and tidy The windows not working suggest electrics however it may not be related. - still not working 4Check fuses F31, F34, F37, F42 - all ok Don't have the knowledge to check the rest, so it might have to be a garage job.

Plugs? Coils? Wiring? Clogged fuel filter? Air filter? Dodgy sensor? Throttle idle valve? Throttle position sensor?

Did the same thing again on Moday of this week so I had it taken to the garage that looks after the car. Initial thoughts were it was the passive security system playing up, but after putting it on the diagnostics the secuturity memory was found to be ok but it found that fuse 25 (power window) was showing a problem. They removed it and found it was pretty filthy. Cleaned and replaced it and it was tested over the next two days and they were unable to recreate the fault. Worked perfectly, so I have it back home again. Bit of a loss of confidence with it at the moment, but these intermittent things are quite hard to trace. It had had a full tank of petrol and done 250 miles the previous day to the initial failure so it had had a good run our and got really hot. see what happens
