Dies if cold when rolling in first gear (2.0 16v)

2.0 16v manual gear box, LPG, the problem is as follows:
If the engine is cold (running on petrol initially), I put it in to first gear and start rolling slowly, then the engine dies. If hot, there is no problem at all. To overcome this annoying problem, I need to start and accelerate fast (pedal to the metal) or keep the rev high and play with the clutch in order not to let the car accelerate unwillingly. Coils, plugs, vacuum hoses, EGR, Idle valve, etc.were swapped and checked many times, this behaviour stays. (Even an engine replacement did not help: I had a piston problem after 250k miles.).
Any suggestions? Thank you in advance! Best ragards, Csaba (owner of it since April 2000)

The one thing you have not mentioned is cleaning the MAF Try that. Smiley

Thank you. Yes, I forgot to mention that I did that as well. I have probably 10 pieces of them. The wires and resistors were cleaned under microscope. It does not matter which one is in... Sad

The PCM (Motorsteuerungsgerät) is connected with the gear box. As I repaired the wiring loom by replacing all wires from the engine wiring loom last year, I once tryed to start the engine without connecting the transmission connector. It do not start correct, the engine rumbles like a sack of nuts.
The transmission connector leaks and so the wires were complete oil-contaminated and the isolation broken.
Maybe there is the fault.

Dies it, if you put a gear in, or dies it, if its rolling?

Sorry for my "simply" english - my native language is german.

Thank you for your help. Well yes, it may be a possible source. Exactly what happens: I put it into first gear, I then release the clutch (slowly or fast it does not matter). Then usually the car dies. To overcome this nuisance, I need to accelerate fairly quickly. A slow acceleration does not help either. Therefore, in a cold condition I cannot drive slowly, let us say 5 km/h or around. The only way is to release the clutch halfway and keep the rev above 2000...after 2 to 3 Minutes this behaviour is gone and the engine runs well....Another way to overcome this dying is to press the gas pedal to the bottom (as soon as I feel that something is wrong) and then the engine revives....Yes, I can live with this, it is only very annoying. Last time I had a thorough look at the manual gearbox loom. It does not look good but I managed to repair it - I do hope. This behaviour is temperature dependent.

I don't think the gear box loom has any effect on the manual cars.
My auto won't even start with it disconnected but we had Simmo's manual car running without it connected.

If the engine do not dies if you put the gear in, but only when you relaese the clutch, I think it is not the loom/plug to the gear.
And when you write, after 2 or 3 minutes of running engine is all okay, then it could be the (warming up) time, till the PCM works with O2S1 (Lambda).
If I think right, the PCM is much more effectiv in regulation the engine with O2S1, so it could override other faulty sensors/data.

What happens if the engine is warmed up?

If the engine is warm, it then runs smoothly as it should.

It was a vacuum problem. The intake manifold had to be replaced. It is a somewhat bigger part and it has four+one holes and the appropriate rubber seals. If the car runs the motor should be sprayed with a solution containing alcohol. If the engine then runs better or worse, it is then a vacuum problem.
