24V won't idle cuts out

pretty sure I know the issue the wiring for the idle control value. Recently had the heater matrix done and needed the intake manifold removed to do so and the mechanic that did it mentioned the wiring for the ICV was hard and breaking up due to it's location some wire was exposed so he put some sealant around it to stop it shorting. initially it was not idling great up and down but now it just cut's out you have to break and accelerate to keep it going. got a good code reader with live data will I get any data for the ICV? any idea where I can get a new plug and wire from.

Sounds like an air leak somewhere. If you have removed the manifold then you need to go and check those rubber cuffs. Also make sure the vacuum pipes are all connected properly, I managed to break my t-piece without knowing. When it does run , can you hear any whistling from inside the vee? Check the manifold gasket also? Did you fit a new one? Dan

Hi Lee, as Dan says - check for air leaks. I changed my matrix many moons ago but I can't recall if I had 'hunting' afterwards - though I was well aware of need to avoid air leaks. I didn't change my manifold gasket - but I was probably lucky there. Never seen DTCs or anything in live OBD data directly relating/pointing to IACV even when I had issues with mine - my issue (occasional stalling when lifting off accelerator) was resolved by removing it and giving the insides esp the spindle copious amounts of carb cleaner to remove/dislodge the worst of the carbon build up. Made it a regular service job when I had car. Beware of the IACV gasket - it's fragile - I just left it in place each time (though I had a spare just in case)

I would go with the wiring further down into the loom in the V of the engine. Sounds like the loom has never been renewed. I think if there was a vacuum leak into manifold the engine shouldn't really cut out as it is getting a bit of air. Fuel mixture usually the problem with un-metered air.

Cheers air leak sounds like the culprit will have a look tomorrow. Got a new symptom which points more to some kind of air leak. Went to fill up and the fuel tank was pressurized it hissed when opening . Then ran it again for 20 seconds and it was pressurized again. Got then scanner on it noting useful on live data and a couple of stored codes lean on bank 2 and sensor issue on bank 2 cleared them and need to check again. Didn't do the matrix myself but I had to supply the parts they laughed when I said the matrix was the same as an Escort so no new gasket.

Hissing fuel tank is normal. In your case it's probably de-pressurised as fuel its used - shows the cap is giving a good seal and your EVAP system is working.

Seem to remember when we had "movvy" it got really bad when tank was in the red, all the others do hiss but not as bad as that was (also you could smell petrol when in the back of the car when the tank was below1/4 R y

If you suspect air leak then remember to check the EGR connection on the underside of the inlet right at the back. It is a right pain to get to as well. 10mm really offset spanner required to tighten it up.

| It was low on fuel and they do mention the smell of fuel in the back never noticed the hiss when opening the filler cap before but must have just missed it so not a new sympton just another fault breather pipe blocked I'm guessing.
