Deep sleep mode?

Hi Everyone, Can you help? My 24v won't start, headlights and radio work but car won't even try to turn over. Unfortunately I've been ill and haven't started it for 11 days, I think it has gone into deep sleep mode because this happened once years ago when I had been on holiday. My garage doesn't know about this mode and thinks that the RAC will be able to jump start it or put in a new battery. Does anyone know if this is the right solution? Thank you scorpi-oh (Reggie's Mum)

When you turn the key to try and start it, do you hear a click as the starter solenoid engages? If so, the problem is likely to be a flat battery. You could try charging it or a jump start but if the battery is more than 4 years old, it probably should be changed. Bob.

Thanks Bob, no there is no click. The battery is a 3 year battery bought in April 23. I have no flashing red light when he is locked and doors sound sluggish to open with the key. The car had got very wet under the bonnet when we had really bad rain one night. After that driving along, the CD suddenly made an electrical spitting noise and stopped working but the radio kicked in. A little further on the radio stopped working too. There was a light in the unit but nothing would play. Now, the CD does play when I turn the key to start. Having Googled the problem I'm wondering whether the wet has made some kind of connection with the radio/CD player which is draining the battery when the car is parked. We have recently had most of the wires recpaced because of a stalling problem and the car was at the garage for 5 months.

If the battery is not old, perhaps you could first try a jump-start or charging it before buying another one. If you have to take it out to get it near a charger, be sure to put a tie-wrap around all the black negative leads before undoing the battery connections because it is very easy to miss a small black one upon re-connection. If you do loose one, it will never start and you will be in a world of pain. If it starts and you still think the radio/CD wiring is a problem, you could try removing F8 & F24 in the main fuse box. According to the handbook, F8 is for the radio and F24 is for the audio and interior lights.

Hello, try the button on the trip turn ignition on and slowly so as not to miss anything press it repeatedly it scrolls through a few things before it comes up with "batt" this shows the voltage in the battery in real time If it's below 11.5v (think that's correct) then the car will not turn over as the computer knows not enough available power. Troll through stuff on here to get a precise list of what shows on the trip. If you need a bettery it needs 700 amps cold cranking, tayna batteries on ebay can supply next day probably around £70, be sure to reconnect all wires as sometimes aa small earth (black) is missed. If you have a charger try that first, if it hisses when charging it's dead. Sometimes it's too low to take a charge, connect a good battery to it for a few minutes then try the charger again, it works sometimes if there is enough to make the charger think it will take a charge. Just my thoughts, others on here with better knowledge than me, R Y

Thanks Roy, good to know you are still out there. I'm calling the RAC in the morning as I can't do these things for myself, just needed some advice as they don't always know what they are doing. If they can get him going it will be straight over to Mark to check him out. Wish us luck please.
