Beware the smallprint

I had my MK1 Granada insured with Adrian Flux for more years than I can remember & had thought them to be quite reasonable.....until now 
I sold my MK1 last week  ....so I rang them to cancel the policy & seeing as I only renewed it just over two months ago was expecting them to give me a refund on what's left minus the admin fee.
"There is no admin fee for cancellation" the telephonist informed me......."but there is also no refund of premium, as you are on a non-refund policy....it states this on your insurance certificate" 
Well it doesn't actually.....it states it on the Summary...
'Please note this policy will not supply you with a refund if cancelled mid-term'
Mid-term ? Hmmm. I'm led to believe that the definition of 'mid-term' is half way through the policy. Seeing as I'm only 2 months into the new policy then surely I should get something back...No ?
Any advice anyone, before I ring them again & go to the CAB for legal advice 
P.S...The premium for the year was only £133, but there is a principle involved & a point to prove

I once had the misfortune to insure a classic via Adrian Flux,they charged me extra for some sort of 'insurance insurance' for which I had not asked,and £15 'certificate fee',one would expect the certificate to be part of the deal methinks,but I suppose this is just another brokers perk !!
I did not take them up on the deal and cancelled the next day.
One of my daughters changed her go to work scooter and rang the insurers to transfer the cover to the new machine,I think it was 'Bikesure' or something similar,she was told that it could not be transferred,and when asking for a refund was promptly told that there was no such thing.No prizes for guessing who owned the company,yep,Adrian Flux  Regarding doing anything about your problem I would think Mr Fux has got it sewn up as he is a master of the customer rip off.
I have an old Dennis fire engine insured with NFU,costs 100 odd quid,any driver and no catches,it says NFU on the top of the certificate and that is where the fee went,very satisfying

Aye, I've been insured with Flux years ago, never again! His agreed value is open to all sorts of interpretation as I found out when someone nicked my Truimph Stag and trashed it. I ended up taking them to court, I did win and costs but it took 14 months. It's only after you've had grief with a company that you hear all the horror stories, CAB are worth a shot JC.

Right then, I've spoken to Adrian Flux this morning & they admitted that they were wrong & I should, in fact, be due a refund  . According to their policy booklet, all premiums over £100 are due a refund if cancelled within four months from the start of the policy, in my case 50% (into the third month of a limited mileage policy).
I originally paid £133, £30 of which was set-up costs. So that makes the total premium £103.
The guy on the end of the phone disappeared for a while & then, seeming a little nervous, came back with this :-
50% of £103 is £51.50....minus £20 cancellation fee charged by the insurance company, minus £25 cancellation fee charged by Adrian Flux, minus a percentage charge of £5.24 for something else they just made up
So total refund due back to me is a grand total of.......76 pence
They really do have it all tied up nice & tight & know exactly how to squirm their way out of things 
At least I now know not to get insurance with this bunch of sharks ever again
P.S.....The definition of 'mid-term' according to Adrian Flux, is after the first two weeks

Could have been worse, at least you didn't end up owing them anything.
I think this is pretty standard with most classic policies - no refund if you cancel.
