Hi All, came across these, mainly aimed at repair specialists but having looked at them some could be a timely reminder to us DIYers: general stuff and tyres Paul

Good advice Paul ....it's beggars belief how some people think it's safe to crawl under a car with just a trolley jack or manufacturers wheel jack holding a ton & a half of metal above them One thing that was missed out though was the use of wheel ramps. After a few years the metal & welds can get rusty & weaken. They also get weak from metal fatigue, caused by the continuous heavy loads forced upon them.....so best not to use old car ramps When using ramps, I always use a trolley jack to support in between as well

Not only that, there's plenty of TV programmes and TV ads showing exactly the bad methods. There's one latest ad where it's done for a larf (dog grabs hold of the handle of a trolley jack while bloke is underneath) Good point about the wheel ramps tho, I inherited a couple from my dad but were probably 40 years old and rusty, they went to the metal skip at the recycling depot
