David, I've heard of this one myself. It's no doubt a good idea until it gets corrupted by the rogues.

I do work in the building industry, it's like the general opinion on CORGI - used to be a good idea until it was ruined by the rogues getting hold of certification without being qualified. Had a locally well known registered CORGI plumber put in a new heating system in our house, cost £2500. Ok until the first service when another CORGI plumber wanted to condemn it because of the way the gas pipework was laid and where the boiler had been sited (don't ask)...happens a lot, too much considering how hard it is to operate now without a certificate Undecided

Not to be dark sbout it, it's a good idea if policed properly Smiley

Regards, Bruce.

AgreeOur local paper has nearly a full page of handyman ads,god knows where they have all sprung from.I work in the building trade aswell and a couple of these guys I know are painters and decorators so where their knowledge of electrics, joineryand plumbing has come from is a mystery to me.I think they must have spent a lot of time watching diy shows on tv.I would not let one loose on my house. Yeah, it's a shame that the good, are tarred by the lousy.

Most of these monkeys have dubious skills, unsafe knowledge, lots of promises, big smiles, intimidating friends, and fat bank accounts!!
They think NOTHING of ripping people off and they have no consciences worth talking about.

Like Roy, I wouldn't let any of them anywhere near a proper job.

The best way of doing a job is to DO it Yourself. Might take you a while, but you'll learn things you never knew, and you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that it's been done the way you want it.

The ONLY actual garage I'd recommend is in Newton Abbot.

Lee of PE Services, is a First Class Mechanic. He won't mess you about or rip you off, and I'd put his name in the hat anyday.  Wink He's a top rate man who is a pleasure to deal with.

Does   anyone  hire  out  garages in your area  for the serious  DIY mechanic ?

You know,  there's  a  car hoist  and  tools avaiable but essentially you do all the work yourself  in  the  warmth   of   a dry   garage.

Don't know anyone in the S.Devon area, but I'm lucky enough to have a decent garage and driveway to work in which helps. If I needed a hoist I'm sure Lee would have a gander underneath for me given a bit of notice.

I'd always help another Scorpio owner in this area if I can.   Wink

I know some years ago, a company started doing this, and wonder what became of it. As you say, they used to provide the hoists and you came in and got on with the work yourself, paying them for the time you used the facilities.
