hey guys i hope you can help me here. I just got my 2.0 16v auto ultima a few days ago, i drove home approx 500 miles on lpg. the car ran fine bar the box changing up and down a lot and occasionally dropping into neutral then back into drive again. it spent a lot of time running in 3rd. I cleaned the MAF, and topped up the box oil, no more hunting up and down the box, and runs great on petrol. ONLY now it seems to missfire or hesitate a lot when running on LPG, any suggestions as to cause or solution?? second problem, got radio code input, but cd changer doesnt work, it seems to get power as magazine ejects ok, but head unit doesnt seem to recognise it. cheers in advance

Hi iainand first of all welcome to the madhouse what model stereo do you have fitted? (2007 or 7000) type stereo? I don't know much about LPG conversions or how they work but this wiring loom on the DOHC engines can cause problems (cracked insulation on wires etc..) have a read through http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/dohcloom.htm HTH Danny R

first of all, does the radio give any errors when you press the CD button briefly? or does nothing happen? if you pull the radio out using the extraction pins (make sure you have 4 digit code at hand), check all 3 connections on the back especially the flat grey ribbon type lead going from the radio to a loose black box. also check the multiplug hasn't worked loose on the cd exchanger under the plastic surround. Poor running on LPG is usually down to ignition faults or air / vacuum leaks, takeing it that the system is correctly set in the first place. you do not say what type of system it has, single point, closed loop, multi piont, sequential. with single points and closed loop, the most common faults are excessive plug gaps / worn plugs, or HT leakage on the leads, plug gaps on these systems should be no more than 0.028" in old money. Multi points and the latest sequentials seem to cope with standard plug gaps. Lpg needs a higher KV to ignite it (stronger spark) so you tend to get more notiseable mis fires when useing it, the ignition system needs to be in tip top condition.

If its running ok on petrol then other than allready stated it may well be a mixture problem on the LPG. On the vaporiser there should be a drain plug which enables you to drain the crud which collects in the vaporiser. It could just be that the system needs re-tuning and would be advisable to take it to a LPG fitter to have this done. Do not run the car on LPG in this condition as it could result in a damaging backfire.
