Hi Guys,
 
Some ( one or two ) may know me from other ford forums ( Interford, FSOC, XROC, Fordpower ) Anyway, I have stepped up to a scorpio from a sierra ( well the family bus was a T5 volvo but that's now in a lot of bits ... )
 
I now have a 24V 1995 Ultima ( I think ) Estate.  
 
So far quite happy but  have 1 or two issues to sort.
 
Issue 1  
Hopefully just a duff battery but it seemed to be going flat quite readily. I have put on a spare and will see how that goes.
 
Issue 2
My Traction Control and Cruise lights work fine... Untill I turn on the head lights! they then extinguish!  
 
Issue 3  
Air Con ( Auto ) Blows cold or hot but not a lot inbetween?  
 
Issue 4  
 
Rear speakers no sound...
 
Issue 5
 
Tailgate release, should this pop on the remote? and is there a way to pop it manauly without the key?
 
Issue 6  
 
A few cosmetics need sorting, front lights need updating or modding,  wheels are the phonedial 15" with HUGE rubber, rust on 1 wheelarch.  
 
Issue 7
 
Master key and spare need reprogramming.
 
Issue 8
 
Mirror has been puttyed back into place on the mount..
 
Issue 9
 
Slight Missfire at idle
 
Issue 10
 
Seems to take a while to pic up throttle, then goes like a rocket...
 
Issue 11
 
Suspension seems very soft..
 
Overall I am quite happy, just some bugs to iron out I guess..

#4. Start with taking out the head unit and check if all cables are okay, if yes, check if the outputs on the head unit work (connect a known working speaker directly)
 
#5. You should be able to push the lock barrel slightly to pop it open.
 
#10. This may be normal on an auto, try engaging sport mode and turn off o/d and see if it helps.
 
#11. Shockers may be worn out. If you push it down, does it come right up again and stop moving quickly, or does it keep bouncing for a sec or two?
My shockers were so badly worn that they needed roughly 40 minutes to extend themselves ones pressed (this was on a bench, not mounted on the car where the springs would pull them out again), yet the car only felt soft, not bad. New shockers made a world of difference.

Does the 2007 have a seperate amp?
 
#5 Stiff and will not budge..  Remote pop not working either..
 
#10 I guess it's just a case of getting used to the A4LDE..  
 
#11 Just passed an MOT so it can't be too bad.  
 
Issue 12. Crumbly rear arch...

#5 You could try to soak it in WD40, if that doesn't help, you probably need to take out the lock and clean the moving parts.  
 
#12 we all got them  Wink Classic design fault on older Fords.

issue #2 - yep, my cruise control light on the dash is the same, when you turn the lights on, the cc light dims to almost nothing, seems a common fault, im just living with it..... i never turn TC on so dont know if its the same  Grin

3. Try doing a reset as on the main site.
4.There is an amp up under behind the glove box and below the airbag, quite hard to get at, This is where I had problems with sound from this connection.
5.Are you pressing the release twice on the remote, If so the remote may need cleaning.

#1: When I bought my 2.3 in Sep 2004, it still had the original battery from 1996, ran fine for a while, then I started noticing the speedo flicking up when I turned the key, lost the radio keycode a couple of times, some of the segments on the AC started to vanish etc etc, strange faults. Parked it up for a couple of weeks after Christmas and then dead as a Dodo... New battery and no problems since.
 
#3: You need to run it for a while to let the temp stabilize, in the cold weather it will blast you with hot and cold air in the Summer, it should settle down after a while, works very well.
 
#12: Yup, same here too, behind the liners on mine was caked in dried mud. Paint can be done at home though, I've just redone my scabby door bottoms, rear arches are next and where the front/rear doors rub. Word of advice, don't go to Halfords for the paint, get it from Ford; it isn't cheap but it's a much better match (at least the State Blue is), dries harder and polishes back much easier. With some care it can look very nice Wink

Will do the AC reset. The thing is probably realy confused after the battery going flat so much!
 
Do I need to press the button twice? I think I will pull it alll apart and clean it all up ( check the popper )

Yes you have to press the button twice, If you take it apart you'll have to reprogramme it, Not a hard job, See main site again for instructions Wink
If you got skinny arms then you may get to the amp through the radio apperture, You can trace the wire from here to the amp, Grey wire as far as I remember.
I replaced the radio with a Sony CD player anyway, If you do this then you still need to get to the amp for the speaker connections.

Issue #10:
Mine's just the same - reminds me of the BOA in my old grannie.  Just when you think it's time to get out and push, it goes off like a rocket.
 
Using sports mode does help, but doesn' entirely solve it.
 
One thing about it though, it's much harder to lose your back end when accelerating hard from standstill into a corner, whereas with my 24v Senator, I was always whipping the back end round.  It was a real art driving that thing hard round corners.
 
Moral? - the Scorps much safer round corners!!

ISSUE #1 Solved. ( fitted spare battery... )
 
ISSUE #9 , this only seems to be just after start up, so I suspect the ECT may be on it's way out. I realy need to get an OBD2 reader..

#2 Feature, they dim for night driving...
#3 (Still seems to be a bit of HOT/or/COLD )
#4 ( Rear speakers no sound... still )
#5 (poper still not working)  
#6 Front lights in progress & 16" Wheels added..
#7 ( need to get to dealer)
#8 Made 1 good out of two bad for £7.50  
#9 ( this is worse, cleaned maf and ISCV OBD says bank 1 lean )
#10 ( still investigating, possibly related to 9 )
#11 16" Alloys and low profiles helped a lot.
#12 (Still investigating)

A few years back I built a 4WD Escort Cossie Rep with a 24V BOA and XR 4X4 running gear.  Whilst barefoot skiing with a mate of mine, (works for Roush Tech, who programme ecu's for FORD and other major manufacturers), we were nattering in the boat about my latest project, and I asked him about re - mapping it !  No need he said, fuelling is spot on, but base ignition is set deliberately retarded to Kill the excessive torque. Hence this flat spot.  All I did was made up a small ally bracket to move the crank sensor round about 5 degrees, thus advancing the overall timing settings.  Bas%*rd absolutely flew off Idle then.  Dont know if this will work with a BOB, may well do!  But then if it does, with only 2WD it will be very prone to lighting up the back tyres everywhere.  Dave (Howie) will probably know a lot more about this than me.

Sounds like a problem with the release motor in the tailgate or the wiring to it,
I have to use a key at the moment as there's a broken gear in the motor.
