More gremlins in my dash...

I seem to have some gremlins in my 24V dash. 1st thing I noticed was that when my headlights are on ( dash iluminated ) the lamps for the Cruise and traction control go out. Yesterday tooteling up the motorway at a fule freindly 70mph...( on cruise ) My coolant water lamp came on I only had a bout 4 miles to my destination so considered it safe to proceed but kept a firm eye on the temperature gauge ( the other one watching the traffic ). the Guage held steady. Aproaching the motorway junction I braked to disengauge cruise. And either at exactly the same point or a fraction later the water lamp went out... I considerd the options. 1) the inclination of the car had changed slightly allowwing the sensor to close. Seemd unliky as we had be traveling up and down slight inclines.. 2) Engine RPM had slowed and the pump was drawing lss of a reserve from the headder tank. ( not very likly ) 3) Sensor fault 4) Dash fault. On arival at destination the water level was imediatly inspected and found to be on maximum, thus prety much rulling out 1 & 2 Now since I already seem to have dash faults I am of the mindset that this fault lies somewhere with option 4. Option 4 obviously brakes down into a few options. 1) Dash printed Circuit Fault. 2) Module Fault. 3) Ground Fault. So to the questions. 1) Is there a warning lamp module? 2) Are all dash's the same ( petrol ) but programed for RPM/MPH? 3) What grounds are there to the various mentioned components? Cheers TT

Check the multiplugs on the back of the instrument cluster, dimming lights etc sound like they could be through bad connections Regards, Bruce.

Just a thought, I recently had my instrument cluster out to replace some of the bulbs, but found that I only had one blown bulb, the others just needed the contacts cleaning. Some of the bulbs are push fit into the holders and don't always make a good contact.

Yep the guys are right, the lamps DIM for night driving, USELESS during daylight if your using your lights for warnings. This seems to affect the Traction and Cruise lights. Reseating the plug on the sender seems to have cured the temperature guage for now... TT

Hi TT, yep the plug on the temp sender is a culprit for dodgy readings and as you say the dimming cruise and traction lamps are useless in anything other than Darkness. Glad you got it sorted, check the plug on the coolant level sender it goes "green" the same as the temp one. Regards Dave
