hi all my 1998 cos24v est has a prob. on starting from cold the engine ticks over ok but when you are driving at low revs(between 1800/2500)it apears to cut out and start again. the rev counter drops and comes back. as its an auto can still drive but very jercky.can get round it by adjusting throtle . when it has warmed up its ok. even if left for several hours. its like the ignition was beeing turned off and on. but only rev counter drops. seems to me to be somthing in the cold start system afecting engin managment. any iders cheers chris

Go to This page and read through the various symptoms. Above all cliick on the MAF link and select the 'Clean the MAF' link. Clean the MAF before you do anything else and don't forget to re-connect the electrics.....you wouldn't be the first to forget it as it can easily slip out of sight.

The rev counter gets it's feed direct from the edis system.
If it goes to zero then you are loosing your spark.

Check the wiring on the engine, espically to the crank sensor.
