A suggestion: Fuel Injector Relay sticking. Get it out, and tap it. Then try again. The contacts sometimes stick together, and can cause intermittant start failure problems. Only way is a new relay. We had this on another car, took ages to sus it out, and it can be very worrying driving along and suddenly the power just goes and you are not running anymore. Especially if you have 40 tons of lorry behind you!! Worth checking anyway. It's relay No. 17

hi there i'd give all the wiring to the coil pack a good look over. could well be breaking up. also the coil packs themselves could be suspect. they're wasted spark ones hence the 'spark' moving between the leads. hth

hi there have you taken the 'fat short' leads off? have a look at the connections for oxidisation. it's also possible that the spark plugs have went 'off'. this can happen very quickly with platinum ones. try swapping them around. btw, don't run it too much as petrol will be getting to the cat and ruining it.

yes i tested a spare spark plug directly into the top of both the coil packs nothing, some time there is a VERY faint spark? only the spark plugs that sit under the coil packs seem to be working

hi there i'd say it was the packs then. can you swap someone for a known good one to check? shouldn't be too expensive in a scrappy.

Hi. sounds very much like the loom wiring to me, unlikely both packs would go at once. Check the part of the loom where it enters the recess at the back of the engine where the coilpacks are, mine fell to bits under the outer loom insulation. Sometimes it's gone bad right down to the fuel rail. Regards, Bruce.

Lock3h wrote...... "plus when the car gets hot it wont start at all".... If the car won't start when it's hot, then it could be the fuel rail pressure regulator at fault....I had the same problem a few months back

Dont think it was just the coil packs alone, ive cleaned all the plugs, wiring, injectors, inlet manifold so on, its never ran so sweat, i gave it a full service, flushed the engine out, water filters, pollen filters so on. like a new car now it was lucky, as i was ready for taking it to the scrap yard.
