Hi Can anyone tell me an easy way to check if my Air Con compressor is working, i have topped the AC up and is showing no signs of a leak, so my next guess is the compressor is ok ? unless anyone can tell me where else i should check ? Cheers Matt

hi matt well, to test the clutch and the wireing to it, simple have the engine running and the ac on, open the bonet and check to see if the full pully assemble is rotating (if the 3 peg looking bits are still then the compressor isnt working) as the ac cycles on and off. if the pegs are rotating, feel the radiator you can see looking from the front of the car with the bonet up, thats the AC rad, not the coolant rad (that sits behind) if the rad is getting warm/hot then the ac is doing its job.

Another way to check the compressor clutch is... ....With the engine off, try to rotate the compressor clutch wheel (the part with three pegs on) by hand. It should turn easily...if it won't turn by hand, then it has seized

Hi Matt_D With the engine running and the A/C switched on, can you see the magnetic clutch both engaging and disengaging? As an aside, how have you tested for leaks of gas? IainC

Hi guys, hi JC, I have a the same problem with my AC. Sometimes its working and for instance, this evening comming home the flipping thing would only blow ambiant temperature air ...fine if you want to sit a very warm cab......hmmmm. So I opened the sunroof fully and drivers window and presto hey,no more problems Turned up the CD player with FREE MR Big and I was happy as larry. So guys, my advice is that the AC system is old and nacked...can I say that? Oh well. Yeh, if you want an AC system that is fault free...get a new motah. Our cars are comming up to 10 years old and things will go to kack, accept it and relaxavoux. take it easy guys and have a few bevvys. If it works, great, if it dont, ...It might do tommorow. Scorpiosis. Of course you could resort to the Basil Faulty method of motor vehicle maintainence and beat the thing with a bush

Hi Tib, I make no excuses for being an old hippie. I love my 70s rock. I also listen to the Dutch radio station "ARROW ROCK RADIO" on MW 675, give it a go ......you will become hippiefied over night and just take life at a different pace. People often mistake me for Ossie Osbourne, Its not that I look like him but I keep on steping in dog poo.

| On days without a K in the month, switch on the air-con, make sure the battery warning light on the dash has gone out, then try pushing the compressor wiring plug in to see if that starts it up. Mine has the catch broken off and over time it wiggles itself loose, despite me trying to hot-melt glue it on! Darren

Hi Darren, I did the re-set in car thing while I was waiting for the memsahib to show up yesterday and got code 57. I did this three times ...just as advised by the wise ones on here. Lots of clock type noises, now most of this week has been very humid and the flipping thing would not work at all, so knock me down with a feathery thing that on the way home IT WORKED! It worked so well in fact that the memsahib complained that she was cold (chicks eh?)...no way was I going to drive home without this wonderful chilly air. Arrived home thinking brrrrrrrrrr and chilly all over. I wonder if it will work today...
