hi all. ive got a 2.0l galaxy that uses same engine as scorpio lump, now heres the problem ive got. had a whiring noise on engine and noisey tappets ?? done the full hog on the camchain ie:changed the lot as the blade was cracked also the chain tension guide was broke so i done the lot. ive still got this noise sounding like a tappet that is there from cold start to engine hot, ive tried 5w30 and 15w40 its still there. at approx 2000rpm the noise goes away and is just audible. this has got me demented now, i checked the hydraulic tappets and all are soft to press in and all feel identical. the only thing i can think of is that its got low oil pressure so not enough oil to top end. where is the oil pressure relief valve on these engines please so i can put a washer behind it like in the old days with minis. im taking the sump off it in morn to see if theres any crap in sump and also to clean the strainer. any help on this matter will be great as its only this site that seems to know what they are talking about.

Have you used a cheap oil filter?. If the filter does not have a 'non return' valve the engine will be initially starved of oil to the top end.

i know about the filters but the noise is there all the time so it rules out the oil filter which is a genuine ford item

Hi. Just reading this with interest, I can't add much but are you sure it's not a piece of tensioner or something which has somehow found its way into the bottom end of the engine and it being vibrated? A guy I know on another forum had a rattle/slapping sound at 1500-2000rpm, he thought it was worn supercharger nose bearings or big ends...turned out to be the above, part of one of the top timing chain tensioners had broken off and got wedged near the bottom. I've got the sound file here somewhere, I'll see if I can dig it out. Could also be something deceptive, even like a loose cat element or something? Hope this helps a little.
