Never mind Dan,you'll soon be able to set the dogs on em It's a sure fact that someone like me can be paying insurance for 50 years without incident and being relieved of many thousands of pounds, then a small happening has them looking for some reason not to pay out, then actually doubling my renewal premium "because you had that scrape",thus I would have been paying for the third party scrape and my premium both in full,my vehicle was unscathed,so no cost to the insurers in that respect. They are legalised daylight robbers the bloody lot of em,and it's past time that they were investigated in depth. Needless to say I did not take them up on their double premium, and went to pastures new.

This is why alot of people drive without insurance, the fine IF they get caught is less than they have been quoted

Although my Scorpio is currently stuck in a garage & I'm not using it [ SORN'd ], I've had an automated quote through from the AA for just £136.25 comp for a year.

Interesting that they think a dog handler is a higher risk! How does that work then? Me, £387 this year, but was £519 last year. OK got it lower this year but lost 'can drive any other car' and limited to 1,000 miles.

I think the insurance premium goes down once you reach 25

Yep, it does go down after you reach 25 or so. Once you have 4 or 5 years NCB , that should make a big dent in the cost. I insured my XKR this year with Privelege fully comp for £580 (I'm 28 with 9 yr NCB)..that said, I have a huge voluntary excess, though I'd never ever claim unless the car got totalled or something. But it shows that it goes down before you hit 30, the first year I insured my Scorpio when I was just turned 20, that was over £1500.. Problem is, a lot of insurance companies shaft you on the 2nd year, so I'm waiting to see what the renewal is in Feb. Like with my XJ, it's on a fully comp classic policy (it does virtually no mileage), that was all good, something like £130 last year...but this year they wrote to me saying they couldn't re-negotiate the same policy and it jumped to £200. Yet if I go online I can still find the policy from them for the original cost as a 'new customer' Insurance is one of those things, it's a necessary evil...like they say there's no such thing as an honest car dealer (I haven't found one yet ), there's no such thing as a decent insurance company I feel your pain Dan Bruce.

| Dan, Just saw how old this thread is, but... A few years back, my Aunt insured me as second driver for her car (I was too young for my insurance to cover me to drive other cars). Sounded great and all, but turns out she'd insured it with Sheila's Wheels I'd have died a million deaths if I'd been pulled by the fuzz and had to tell them who my insurance company was Bruce.
