Hi, ive just bought my first Scorpio, A 96 2.9 Auto, Ive had my trusted Mechanic Overlook the car and he says its 'Nice', which is praise indeed. He says the car is basically sound but has been stood for a while, what advice can you guys give, ie should I get a full service

Hi, welcome to the site! Congrats on your purchase, the 2.9 12v is a very good motor. How long has it been stood for? The length of time decides what you ought to check/change. I would change the oil and filter, anti-freeze, brake fluid (if unsure of when it was last done) and check any rubebr drive belts. Consider changing the oil again after 1 month if it has been stood for a while. Have a look at this link re servicing: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/diy.htm Cheers

Full service it is then Definitely change oil/filter, gearbox oil/filter, anti-freeze, brake fluid, and I personally would change the power steering fluid. If there is any petrol left in it add some more fresh stuff before driving it too far. Check tyres and brake discs for flat spots and rusting respectively - if it has been in a garage the latter is not so much of a concern. It sounds like it runs anyway so it should be fine! Grease gearbox selector and all hinges. Whats the mileage?
