Hi all,

Forgive me if this has already been discussed, but has anyone had any thought of turning this into, or even creating an 'official' Owners Club?

Great idea. The polish forum did something like this and they have all sorts of gadgets with a nice logo but they've manage to get a serious discount for the member from FMD on parts.
All members get ID club cards [like NI no. cards] that they can use at FMD for discounts etc. All member pay a small subscription fee every month.

Gozz you're right about that but the idea itself ain't bad and could be done aside this website.
I reckon I can take care of the matter if people are interested and get it up and running as a website and we could take it from there...

hi there

this was brought up a good few years ago.

iirc, it was felt at the time, that the site couldn't support the idea.

i'm not sure if anything has changed since then.

any decision would be down to the site owner.

The feelings the same AFAIK .... Nothings changed. The site is for support of the ford scorpio and as such has the backing of the Ford Motor Co. ( Europe) who gave us the permissions to use their logos and copyrighted material.

Ford are very sensitive to the use of their material and have in the past been known to prosecute unlicensed users ... So if you do decide to detach yourself from this forum and web site remember that when setting it up .

You will not be given any permission from this forum / web site to use any of its material(www.fordscrorpio.co.uk and associated pages ) as it is all copyrighted.

My reasoning for rasiing the suject, wasalong the lines of wojtekor's comments.  As an'Owners Club', there more scope and possibility to negotiate for discounted parts, insurance, etc.  Has certainly been true with other Owners clubs that I know of - Fiesta Zetec-s Owners club, Reliant Scimitar Owners Club & Delorean Owners Club.

Totally agree with Snoopy's comments regarding FoMoCo material.  I've worked for the Blue Oval for 12 years and for me that's a given, especially with regards to copyright.  Also applys to the material on this site of course, however I would have though an Owners Club would be supportive of keeping this site running, especially given the technical support and advice available. Certainly if I were runnig hte Owners Club I would be looking to put a proportion of the Clubs' subs back into the donations for keeping this site running.

wojtekor - happy to chat if you're interested in getting something off the ground.

Snoopy my idea of it is to do it in cooperation with this website and you guys and the best way would be to do it as a part of this website, so that it all makes sense. I've only offered setting up the website on my server so it won't be using your bandwidth...
I was thinking of a sub-domain like www.club.fordscorpio.co.uk or something similar that would only be redirecting to my server, and all of the current administrative team would have admin access and permissions on that server so that you know there is nothing fishy going on...

lloyd2002 I don't want to do anything that won't go along this website and without these people as it won't have any sense...
open for discussion though Wink

Totally agree - if it wasn't for this site we probably wouldn't even be discussing the idea.

Well, my particular idea was about create a side more matching a "formal" owners club in the way there are clubs for earlier mark Grannys and Scorpios Smiley

The Scorpio is starting to become a rarer beast on Britains roads, and IMO, is starting to gain a cherished car (if not a full blown "classic") following amongst those of us here and elsewhere - and this can only really get stronger as time goes by Smiley - ok, they arent quite on the same par as a gorgeously restored MkI "Sweenada", but i think thats only a matter of timing now Smiley

I for one would be proud to be parked up at some of the summer shows with my cossie gleaming behind a "Scorpio Owners Club" Banner, talking car with fellow owners Grin

We do some of this already in local meetings north and south, such as the Badgers Mount meets - this is really just a step along the road Smiley

What would be the actual benefits of an official owners club then?

I'm going to base this reply on information from previous owners/enthusiasts clubs I've been invovled with:-

MAIN BENEFITS
Regular meets with club members
Ability to take part/display at various pageants/rallys/shows- an eliment that pinto mentioned
Obtain preferential rates on parts and insurance

OTHER BENEFITS MAY INCLUDE
Discounted track days
Travel events (Le Mans, Spa, etc)
Partner discount schemes
Exclusive clothing/merchandise

A lot of these won't happen overnight, but it needs to start somewhere.  I'm happy to get the ball rolling.
