As above. I insert the key and turn to pos. 2. I hear the fuel pump start up but that is all. Not a glimmer of a light to be seen anywhere. Stumped!! Any ideas folks? Me and electrics are just not compatible. Mike ps It's one of my 24 valve Cossies

Oops, forgot to say; if I turn the key to pos 3 there is a "clunk" noise. If I then return the key to off and repeat the above I may or may not get the "clunk" noise. Mike

Thank you . Unfortunately the "dear" old weather has intervened once again but I will check out the fuses asap. I did check the Bty and all is well there. I am just stumped at the moment Best regards Mike

Another alternative is a wire not connected to the battery or very bad earthing.

Sorted!! Firstly, thank you everyone for your advice . Right. Having played, and faffed about to the utmost of my pathetic abilities I decided to call out the RAC. the guy checked the fuses and relays in the Bty. side fuse box and discovered that the Relay situated nearest the Bulkhead on the left hand side, as you look from the front of the car, had failed. So he fitted the similar relay from my other Scorpio and hey presto! Everything as should be. Perfect. I believe it is the Main Power Relay: 12v 70amp and is readily available from Auto Electrical outlets. I purchased 2 straight away. I believe that what with the Top Rad hose blowing spreading Coolant all over the Engine bay and the Expansion Tank spraying Coolant about (she has had slightly misted up o/s Headlight lens for some time) it is no wonder the electrics had a problem. Mike, reading your report it would appear that it was Relay 21 listed as Ignition Lock.

Definitely Simmo, I must have mis-heard the RAC man. I had just looked up which Relay before I saw your post. Interesting as now i have no idea as to why that Relay failed . Old age, maybe? Mike

Thank you for the info Mike as it is just this sort of post that helps in the future. Just as likely to be old age...comes to us all...some earlier than others!
